Lunchtime Challenge

Where do I begin with this piece. I knew that I wanted to do something that seemed like it was feathering out, but I took it quite literal with the feathers. I had seen a few ways to do some fun and quick feathering and I went with it. I just like that I completed it in 45 minutes or less.

Lunchtime Challenge

So, today I just decided to doodle at lunch today. These  were done around 45 minutes. They are by far not my best doodles, but I feel like it’s important to show the viewers even the pieces that didn’t take any time to complete.

Using doodling as a relaxation technique has raised my production in the afternoon. I don’t find myself hitting the 3pm wall that I am so used to hitting. Not to mention, I am using my downtime to produce something unique.

What relaxation techniques do you use? Answer in the comments below, I would love to learn new techniques!

Detailed Doodle

This doodle was probably the first piece that I actually planned out ahead of time. My first step was creating a grid. Once I created all my borders, I added in Squares and Circles in the middle so that I wouldn’t bite off more than I could chew for my first full page full of tiny doodles. Here is a close up of the doodles when I first began.

As you may be able to tell, that is a lot of detail wrapped up in the small corner.  I had fully expected to turn every circle into a flower, which I would then fill in with other details. The only purpose for the squares in my mind was to break up the space and make me appreciate the detail even more. As I started progressing even further, I had to figure out the best way to tackle this project. So I decided that making the flowers first would be the easiest route.

Oh just look at that sweet, sweet detail! I loved every minute of this. I thought that each time I added an element, the entire garden just sprung to life! In the end, I decided to surround the entire garden with a fence like border around it. I could not be more please with the outcome and I think that it is actually another good picture for a potential coloring book!

Have you ever drawn anything that made you surprise even yourself? Tell me about it in the comments below!

Penguin Doodle

As I started drawing this, I noticed throughout that it took the shape of a penguin. I tried to disguise the little guy but he kept coming through.  Either way it was very fun to draw and even more fun to add all the little designs in there. The most interesting thing I kept thinking was, once you see it, it can’t be unseen. Do you see my silly penguin popping through?

Floral Doodle

I watch this youtube channel called kcdoodleart, and it gives me so much inspiration.  Check it out if you would like to see the amazing work she does. She is the inspiration behind this piece. She always starts with a circle on the page and builds out from it. The simple fact that she can create something so amazing from just a circle just blows me away every time.

Sea Turtle Prompt

Well, I decided for the new year that I was going to be doing random prompts so that it forces me to think outside the box more. So, with the help of my dear friend, Sea Turtle was born. Here is a close up so that you can see some of the details.

One of these days I will be able to take better pictures of my art that is larger than 8.5×11. This one is 11×14. If you have any suggestions on how to take pictures of larger pieces, let me know in the comments below!

Zentangle Sampler

So, I did it, I decided that I was going to take the patterns that I use the most and create a sampler page using just those. I started this by just drawing a bunch of circles. After I drew all the circles, I just decided how I was going to split it up based on the designs I wanted to incorporate.  The problem is that I don’t know these Zentangle names. So let me know in the comments below!

So far I have these added:

Paradox

Fescue

Gift – Phoenix

I drew this mythical bird for a very close friend of mine that has been through a lot, but always seems to emerge from the pile a new person. I am so proud of him for not stopping until he found happiness. I am so blessed to call him my friend.

I outlined this with fineliners and colored it initially with color pencils. After that I decided that the sparkle of the gel pens would make this creature just POP! I think I was right. He loved it and it now hangs in his office!

What do you think about this piece? Let me know in the comments below.

Pumpkin Spice

Another Zentangle sampler here. Just some of the tangles that I have really enjoyed using. What a better way to collaborate all the different patterns, than to join them together on a symbol of fall and thankfulness.

Let me know if you have seen any of these tangle patterns before and which are your favorite in the comments below.

Adding Color

As my readers know by now, adding color to my art is always stressful to me. I love leaving them black and white because I love seeing what other people see in the picture without me guiding them to one thing or another. This was no different.

I had created this drawing about a week ago. I was just sitting down and doodling and this is what happened. It just came to life on the page. I belong to a few groups on Facebook specifically geared towards art and Zentangle in nature, and they suggested that I color this one. The few friends I showed also suggested I color it.  Here is the before.

I have to admit, the outflow of compliments on my colored piece made me feel a little more confident. I wanted to drag the colors across the page instead of having one color on one side and one color on the other. So I made sure that I tried to balance the colors as I used them.

I am very interested in your constructive criticism or ideas on how I can improve. So, maybe I might try coloring more since this one was so well received. I would love to know what you think about this doodle in the comments below.

Joey’s Weekly Challenge #128

Ever since I started doing these spider webs, I can’t get enough of them. Maybe it is the time of the year with all the spooky decor, but I love drawing them and adding them to different pieces. This challenge was a lot of fun and of course, I got to add my webs.

The funny thing about this is being arachnophobic that I am and yet love the artistry of webs. Even my 7-year-old points that out. *teehee*

Anyways, You can find the challenge here.

Growing as an artist

I love to create new and exciting things as well as work on something that is simple like this drawing. It’s just a branch, but I tried to create something that was whimsical and yet realistic. I like the way the whole thing turned out and I hope to work on more organic things in my art in the future.

With saying all this, I’ve looked at some of my own drawings from the beginning (09/2015), and I have found that even though it has been a whole year, I can see the changes that I have made as an artist. A lot of things are the same, but better. However, I have learned so much and I know that the more that I work on my drawing, the better it will be.

I am excited at where I am going in the next year and would love for you to continue the journey with me. Make creativity a way of life!

Flower Circles

So, this piece started out very weird. I had no clue what was going to form from it. As with all my pieces, I let my mood take flight, adapting the piece in many ways. What I drew in pencil isn’t even close to what the final product came to be.

I am pleased with this piece and very excited to share. It’s in my journal so it’s fairly small, about 5×7, and the details were done with a .01 micron pen.

Anyone Can Draw!

So I decided I draw something using only single straight lines and circles. This is just one of many ideas I had for those that swear they can’t draw. But if you can draw a straight line and a circle, you can create a masterpiece.  This is something I have learned from watching many artists. The problem is that people don’t know what to draw, but the crime is that they worry so much about what to draw that they never put the pen to the paper.

What have you created that amazed even yourself when you were done?

Branching Out

I’m looking at this drawing. I wanted to do something way different than my usual things, but I saw myself as the drawing progressed, falling back into my comfort zone. So how exactly do I branch out?

I have decided that I am going to start classifying my art. Abstract, Fairy tale, Zentangles, Mandala… and so forth. This way I can keep my art going and try not to confuse them all. I am not sure just how all of this will work out. I’m very comfortable with my mandalas and very comfortable with zentangles, but abstract art is a little more difficult.

I usually begin my abstract art with an idea. For this one, I wanted it to look almost alien, universal and even though clean lines, I wanted an element of futuristic edges. But as you can see, I went back to the organic stuff I’m used to doing. The curved edges, the leaves, circles, and flowers.

So here is my journey of finding myself through exploring all different forms of the drawn art.

Looking In Through The Window Of The Soul

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Well, this is my interpretation of my soul.

There are beauty and color, but there is also structure and stability. There are depths of my soul that are untouched and hidden. I have fallen in love with my soul. My soul is music and my soul is poetry. My soul aches for mankind and my soul rejoices for our achievements.

My soul is complicated, yet simple.

I would love to see your own view of your soul. Please comment below.

Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Review

Here is a little doodle that I thought would be fun to try out my new Staedtler Triplus Fineliner pens with. My boyfriend found these on eBay and they arrived tonight. The colors are very vibrant and I am excited about doing more with colors.

These are the pens that he got for me. They are vibrant, and the tips are all 0.3mm so the lines are very fine. I definitely recommend these for drawing, coloring, and writing in your journals. They do not bleed through easily and the ink itself doesn’t skip.

Let’s just say that I have a lot more to test out but I am excited, to say the least. Stay tuned for more fun stuff to come!

Secret Underwater Door

This piece started out as a secret door and then I just decided to make it under water. I had been wanting to do some jellyfish for a while but I didn’t know how to incorporate them. So I decided to make it their home in the secret cave.

In this piece, I found that once I decided on the under water theme, everything I drew started to take shape. I only wanted to add a little color. I like just the hint of the different colors. I didn’t want it to be bold and colorful, I just wanted it to flow easily.

Let me know what you think!
